Although wall decals are having a moment in the spotlight, somehow they don't seem as terrifying as stickers. Maybe that's because wall decals are ok to put on the walls and stickers feel like little kids behaving badly. Check out this installation that might have you thinking otherwise. Would you decorate with stickers?
Although this space in Brisbane might look a little crazy and over the top (and it is), that's ok. That's what art installations are for. This room started stark white and folks were given stickers to help decorate it.
Even if your first reaction is one of "whoa, never in my house" what would happen if you did it just on an accent wall? Or the space where a headboard should go? How about the back of a closet or the back of a bookcase that might need a little flare?
The idea of stickers only seems scary when you think about the removal of them, but in this day and age, even that isn't really a hard thing with strippers and scrapers to help out. Maybe having your stairwell covered in stickers isn't a horrible idea? Maybe it would be so awesome that it would make your friends weep when they came over to take a peek. Ok, probably not, but we're willing to bet it might be more practical than you think!

White Enamel Flatwa...
Cool as art, not in practice for me.
oh, bad, bad, bad, idea. Splattered paint would be better. At least you can paint over it.
Whoa, that is too nuts. Maybe if I were a young rebel, but still. Those just look like bacteria holders. How could you scrub the walls if they got dirty?
Stickers as an "installation"?! What's next - a.b.c. gum installations??
I think this is a really fun art installation! Obviously it's not meant to be lived with in this format, but you all have done tons of examples of decorating with stickers - wall decals! Clearly many people like it (not me, but it looks nice in the right venue)
I just saw this on Mental FLoss! I think it is cool... but not in my house. and don't get me wrong, my entire home is an art project gone wrong, but stickers are obnoxious, and they don't have good staying power. if they got wet they wouldn't look cool like these dots.
I wouldn't do this, but I would do this: http://www.paytonturner.com/stickers
Heck. No.
SO COOL, Leslie! I remember those stickers from childhood.
No, never never never. I've spent literally weeks of my life removing layers of gigantic stickers covered with layers of paint in our old fixer. If I had to pick one thing to go ballistic on the former owners about (and there are plenty of choices), it would be their f*cking stickers.
And yes, I have kids. And yes, they love stickers. We bought them each a cheap dresser from IKEA and let 'em have at it.
stickers are strickly for sticker books.....i got my nephew a drawing book and let him pick out tons of stickers and they have all gone in the book....its all filled up now and look pretty cool but not for walls.
I used to complain to a friend at work because my desk was an old orange metal thing and I hated it. I told here there was nothing worse than an old orange metal desk. The next day when I came it, I found that she had put big blue dot stickers all over it.
I still laugh when I think about it - and I never complained about that desk again. I was able to leave them on. We were about to move to an all new space, so it didn't matter.
I would have maybe felt differently, if I'd had to take them off, people are right when they say they are hard to get off.
That looks like some clowns exploded.
No.
This reminds me of how, when I was really little, my parents let my brother and me put stickers on the refrigerator. That was great until we had to move. Cut to my parents kneeling in front of the fridge for hours, scrubbing it with hot soapy water.
It's cool for an exhibition though. I love the pictures!
bad idea! all of those would have to be removed to repaint, and the resell value on that house.. well.. it would be killed simply because of the stickers.. it takes a very special person.. to accept this and pay for it.. plus its simply too much.. its like a clown blew up or at least vomited
Decorate with them myself? No. If I had kids and they wanted to do that in their room? Why not? A steamer will generally take off stickers without doing damage with the walls so they can be repainted afterwards and I'd never put expensive furniture in a kid's room anyway. So as long as they are old enough to understand that they can only decorate their own space then let them go for it, stickers, paint, markers, whatever.
Geez.... I went to this installation more than five years ago. I'd forgotten all about it! Nice to see they're still doing it, I guess.
7Paul and others can calm down. This is an installation aimed at children, not adults. If you took the time to learn about Yayoi Kusama, you'd probably understand this installation... much nicer than judging it, no?
Looks like Ronald McDonald threw up in that room.
Fun for an art installation.
I like to eat at Wahoo's Fish Tacos (for the uninitiated, a restaurant that is covered in stickers) I wouldn't want to live in one though.
Clown vomit.
Never! My daughters did it on a bed, without, asking, when they were five! No, not ever again! It was awful to get them off wood, almost disastrous. My granddaughter put a few on my painted walls when she was three...don't ask...I laughed butthis time I got them off poste haste. They weren't as sticky and the wall she chose was semi-gloss so they came off pretty easily. Thank goodness.
Lol at clown vomit. This is too much for me.
hinmelb: goma turned 5 this year and since the APT exhibition that they opened with was headlined by kusama they have pulled this one out again, as well as bringing out a heap of her other works.
the dot room is lots of fun except for the mean sticker lady who gives you 'rules' and won't let you go again if she recognised you.
we attended this art installation at the art gallery in brisbane australia just last month. It was amazing and wonderful for children. The artist definately has some fun stuff going on and has been making art for 60 years.

here our our pics of our visit
This room is what happens when an AT troll eats a roll of stickers and then you mention that you painted and decoupaged a mint-condition Heywood Wakefield bedroom suite you found for $25 on Craigslist.
really interesting installation
stickers make me cringe, but mostly it's just from repeatedly finding beautiful old wood furniture at thrift stores that someone obviously put in a child's room and wound up totally coated with stickers top to bottom. I love the occasional well-placed sticker, but when they start to gather in groups I just can't stomach it.
The effect is insane! Fun for an event entrance for sure!
Just invest in Goo Gone in bulk!!
Stickers are the easiest way to refresh and beautify your space
