With the decal craze, the chalkboard wall crush (don't get us started…), and the current obsession with typography, we've grown somewhat accustomed to seeing words and letters gracing interiors. But what about actually writing on the walls — cool or taboo? You tell us.
One of my greatest feelings of artistic freedom came the day that I penned my favorite poem and accompanying sketch directly on the wall without being scolded by my dad. However, the thought of scrawling away on my walls now that I'm the homeowner doesn't have the same appeal somehow…
Is it ever acceptable, fashionable, or cool? What's your take?

Writing on walls can be a personal and inexpensive way to break up the often long white walls in apartments. It is personally not for me but I can see their value.

I'd love to write "I have no taste" on the walls. Not on my walls, of course.
Reminds me of when I was a teenager... I'd scribble what ever was on my mind all-over the closet doors. Just a warning: be careful what you choose to write with. Things like markers/Sharpies can seep through layers of paint. I learned that lesson!
LOVING that first pic!!!!! I have some writing in my bedroom lol... took me a while to be ok with doing it, but I have no regrets!!

I'd never thought about it before, but it looks great in some of those pictures, so hey, why not?!
My husband scribbled down "I love you" in small letters over the stove for me to find when I was gonna paint. I couldnt do but just paint a thin layer of paint over it so it still would shine through...
I think it's hit or miss. If done right, it's awesome. If it's poorly executed, get rid of it.

Doesn't even belong on walls outside.
I think I might have to marry the floor on the first pic.
I went on a house tour of historic houses and in one the current owners had found writing on the wall in one closet. It recorded the prices of heating oil for certain bad winters and also the snowfall totals of major storms with the dates. It was fascinating that it survived a hundred years and who knows how many owners. It was in a closet though and the current owners had put up a frame around it using molding so that it would continue to be preserved for the future.
