Name: Wynn Charlotte Johnson (8 months)
Location: Utah
Room Size: 10x14
The inspiration for Wynn's room came from what might seem like an unlikely source: a thrifted rocking chair that Wynn's mom, Cate, fell in love with. Cate decided to make the butter yellow, armchair-style rocker the seed from which the whimsical meadow theme would grow. WIth nearly everything in the nursery "thrifted or gifted," Cate and her family were able to put together a special, soothing space for their new baby girl.

The yellow rocker also inspired Cate to change the room color from sunrise pink to robin's nest blue, in the process creating a serene space that works perfectly with the items she recycled and bought from thrift stores. Adding to the whimsy are the stuffed clouds, made by Cate's mom, and the beautiful wall mural her sister painted.
How would you describe the look and feel of this room?
Whimsical meadow theme. We live in the mountains and always have deer roaming our yard.
What is your favorite piece or element?
The deer mural that my older sister and I painted is by far my favorite part of Winnie's room.
What was the biggest challenge decorating this room?
Nearly everything in Winnie's room was either thrifted, gifted or recycled from other areas of my home. The biggest challenge was hoping that it would all come together.

You have a lot of accessories that look vintage or handmade. Are any of them family heirlooms? Do you make any of the handmade items? Where do you look for vintage accessories?
The cream dresser and mirror were mine from when I was a little girl. The plates hanging on the wall belonged to Winnie's great-grandmother and the vintage lace used for the bed skirt was a gift from my mother. I feel like life is far too short not to surround yourself with things you love or find beautiful! So when I am out thrift shopping, I only purchase things I really find inspiring and always end up finding a home for it. The clouds were made by my mother and I made the mobile.
We love your unique solution for a side table. How did you come up with the chair and books idea, and how is it working for you?
The chair and book idea has worked seamlessly. I wanted to incorporate the chair in the room somehow and that was what I came up with. The books were thrifted and recovered with coordinating fabric.
If money were no object, what's your dream source?
If money wasn't an issue I would be ordering everything from Land of Nod and Restoration Hardware! They have chandeliers I have been swooning over!

Source List:
• Jameson Panel Crib: Restoration Hardware
• Changing Table: Restoration Hardware

That baby is 8 months old? Looks younger.
I don't understand how this is supposedly "Mormon style."
In any event, it's a lovely room and the teeny tiny tutu-ed Winnie is so darling sleeping on her yellow chair!
I do have one quibble of my own --- more a curious questions I guess --- if you live in a meadow/woods why on earth would you need to buy a branch at TJ Maxx? :-)
Wow!!! This is one of the prettiest nurseries I have seen. And, what a beautiful name! Where did you get the flower pillow on the rocking chair?
It's a beautiful room. I pulled mine together after 9 weeks of her being in the world and I am still working on it as we go. Hopefully by the time my baby is 1 she'll have an awesome room. I love that it has an adult spin on the room with the plates and things on the wall but over time where will Wynn's own artworks and input fit in? In my baby's room, I have 2 cork boards up with some screen prints that were done by the kindergarten kids for me. When she gets bigger I will swap them out for her own artworks. I do love the colour combinations!

I think this nursery is darling. I love the vintage pieces and the colors are beautiful.
I never look at nursery posts because I don't have children and don't find them interesting. BUT- the photo if the baby in the tutu was just too adorable for even me to pass up... Such a cutie!
Morman, really?? Who cares!! As the child grows, I'm sure there be plenty of spaces for her art...jeez folks. Take a breath.
I would call this room Whimscial - Vintage. It has a bit of whimsy with a whole lotta vintage and it's truly lovely. Love the fawn on the wall as well as the small destressed cabinet with all the wonderful vintage pieces surrounding it. Job well done...Oh, yes..she is a cutie for sure!
She is only two weeks old in those photos :)
Lauren I bought the pillow at a quilted bear in provo, utah. They had several colors to choose from! My only complaint is that it has gotten so many "fuzzies" all over it.
My husband keeps on asking me the same thing ;) The trees in the part of Utah we live in are far different than the ones in Oregon /California that I am used to. While I have done several projects and just spayed painted the branches...I was looking for the "perfect branch" to use for her mobile. So when I saw what I considered to be a great branch for $2 I picked it up :)
Baby tummy and baby toes!
:-)
Too cute! Love all the little meadow touches. Also love the old lady chic vibe with all the vintage, heartfelt details. Great job!
How much $ would you bet that out of left field religious comments are rude and out of place?
That is so perfect! You can tell that a lot of love went into this room. I love the combination of personal vintage with your own thrift finds.
I had to giggle when I read you bought the branch (I thought, wow, Utah really is a desert, I guess...) but just want you to know I have no children but was drawn in by the deer mural - I seriously was hoping it was a wall decal I could purchase! It is wonderful! so awesome you made it with your sister.
Precious!
OMG, that baby is too cute...and what a beautiful room!
Wow!! I think this has to be my favorite nursery ever. The colors are so cheerful yet calming. I love how you mixed old with new. It is evident that you put your heart and soul into creating such a beautiful space for your daughter. She is lucky to have you, and you are lucky to have her. I am in awe of your talent, and attention to detail. Thank you for the inspiration.
Lovely! But I have to say some of these comments are bizarr-o. . . Mormon styling. . .seriously?
lol. That makes more sense. I'm not a parent but I thought 8 month olds were pretty mobile.
Beautiful room! So thoughtful and detailed!
LOVE it!! I can't think of a more calming nursery for little Winnie to sleep in :)
I have a child named Wynn too, short for Wynton and he is 14 now. Your little Wynn is going to love that deer when she gets older.
Truly lovely Cate! What a beautiful room for a little girl.
Beautiful! There is nothing I don't love about this. And a big 'wow!' in particular for the deer mural!!
What a beautiful room!
What a lovely, sweet room!
Absolutely beautiful! What a wonderful place to spend time with your baby. Cate you have done a great job, and while Wynn is still a baby. It took me nearly 2 years to get my daughters nursery together..........
A lovely room, but I must admit I have a habit now of looking for safety issues in AT nursery posts... I find them more often than you might think (tho I have a low threshold for what is "unsafe").
I'd recommend (a) getting rid of the garland on the crib. Your baby will be rolling over and reaching for things in no time. That thing is a strangulation hazard.
And (b) hanging the clouds and raindrops away from her crib. They look pretty there, but when she starts to pull herself up (and sometimes you won't know she can stand until one morning you walk into her room and there she is) she'll be reaching for the pretty, sparkly chokables.
I really wish AP would edit nursery posts for safety issues, but they say they don't feel it is their place, and they can't monitor everything. Sigh.
Magoo1 you will be relieved to know that the garland along with everything in her crib were taken down a few months ago! I agree it is super important to take precautions especially when they get a little bit more mobile! Which happens so quickly :)
have a great day!
cate
catej, I am definitely relieved. :) Thanks for the update!!! And virtual smooches to your adorable little one!
ps: The little peel-able wall stickers are a hazard, too. I know of a kid who got his hands on a leaf and papa had to reach in and grab it with his fingers while his son choked. That was two years ago. The dad still gets sweaty and stressed out when he thinks of that moment.
Hi Cate
Love the room...so cute! My favorite is the paint color. Do you happen to remember the color name/brand name of it?
Thanks :)
Thank you so much :) the color is Robin nest blue by Benjamin Moore
Beautiful. And so nice that it didn't come with a huge pricetag - seriously unique. Gorgeous baby!
