The man cave is not for everyone, nor is it only for men. But if you're a man or woman who loves to sit back, drink up and chill out in front of the TV, building a man cave might be your best home project ever. So find a space and put some man cave tech on your shopping list—it might be cheaper than you think. All of our essentials can be bought for around $1000, a small price to pay for the perfect high-tech retreat.

Ever since we moved into our new apartment in March, we've been trying to turn our dining nook into a man cave, since neither I nor my boyfriend had a dining room table amongst our two former apartments.

Our plan was to give the dining area a sports lounge feel—complete with couches, pub glasses and sports memorabilia.

Yeah, "complete" except that there's no tech in the room at all. Clearly we're missing something on the "man cave" concept. We decided our room needed these 3 essentials:

1. A TV
How are you going to chill out in a man cave without something to watch? Whether you're watching a Sunday NFL game or a movie, you're going to need a screen. Outfit yours with a DVD player, game system or whatever you'll need to do what you do.
Our pick: The LG 32-inch 1080p HDTV, mounted to the wall and connected to our cable package for premium sports channels.
How much? $420

2. An iPad or Netbook
Whether checking on your Fantasy Football team, sharing a hilarious video or trying to figure out where you've seen that actress before, you're going to want to stay connected in your cave. Keep it compact.
Our pick: A wi-fi connected iPad, loaded with apps like ESPN Score Center and IMDB.
How much? $499

3. A Beer Cooler or Kegerator
We've already written an ode to the kegerator here at Unplggd. Nothing starts a party like free-flowing drinks—whether it's lemonade or straight bourbon.
Our pick: Avanti's 1.7 cubit foot, glass-front mini fridge. We don't have a ton of room, but everybody needs cold beer.
How much? $120
