We have turned to this book time and again as a resource for living small.
XS: Big Ideas, Small Buildings, has always seemed to us a spoof of Rem Koolhaus' S,M,L,XL, what with its silvery cover and XS reference. However, we find it much more useful than its bulky counterpart.
The book, by Phyllis Richardson, compiles meditative structures, folleys, street furnishings, and temporary buildings into a wealth of inspiration for those interested in taking up less real estate in the best possible way.
While all of the works featured in this book are free-standing, this is still a must-have for the most pared-down of apartment libraries.
