Finding clean and modern hardware, fixtures, and other details for your home at an affordable price can be surprisingly challenging, but subway tile is a happy exception. Classic and minimal, subway tile is usually one of the least expensive tile options and at a larger-scale size it transcends the ordinary.
The homeowner chose the larger 4"x12" subway tiles because she wasn't crazy about the look of grout, and loved the subtle drama the larger tiles brought to the minimal space. The tiles along with a variety of other subway tiles can be found at The Tile Shop.

I kind of love that! I think for my guest bath I'll stick with 3x6 though. Also, I like that tub. Source?
So you don't need grout if the tiles are this size?
I really like the look, it looks very purposeful (even when it was purposeful.) Nice bathroom and shower feature without having shower over tub.
I had that bathroom tile and layout in a Manhattan condo built in 1988. That tile in white is classic and timeless so it will never be in or out of style.
I really love this look. Very clean and minimal. Loving the hardware too.
I love oversized tile in the bathroom.
"So you don't need grout if the tiles are this size?"
No - You need less grout, which means less scrubbing when it's time to clean.
We did this is our tub with a mosaic marble accent and I absolutely LOVE the look. I never knew this size existed until we had to make a snap decision about tile, but I'm so glad we stumbled across it.
My Aunt and Uncle lived in an apartment complex in The Bronx. I think it was built in the 50's, really my great aunt. Since they were making a huge complex the builders were able to customize some things. The made their own custom bricks. Each brick was 10% larger than the standard size. It was quicker because they only needed to lay 90% of the brickand they didn't need as much mortar. It might not seem like much but when they did such a large complex it made a difference. This is a good time and money saving tip to use when you are tiling. Use larger pieces.
We came really close to using something similar for our kitchen back splash but mosaic won out. I love this look, very calm.
It looks okay, but there's something about the classic subway tile I just like better!
Nope, not for me. I love the smaller subway tiles, but this reminds me of the painted cinderblock walls of a highschool, or a hospital.
oooh! i love this! i won some free tile at an industry event and i'm doing a similar pattern to this! it's an 8" x 20" in a high gloss light grey and now i can't WAIT to see it all installed! it will make living through the demolition that much sweeter.
"this reminds me of the painted cinderblock walls of a highschool, or a hospital"
If that's what it reminds you of when laid on the horizontal - Why not consider having it installed vertically?
It's not for me. I think it makes the room look a bit like a motel.
For me, all subway tile summons up memories of my old school gym and cafeteria (especially when done with dark grout.) I honestly cannot figure out what the fuss is all about.
