Yamaha's S-Airplay Rival: The yAired iPod Dock

Similar to their S-Air, announced last year, Yamaha's PX-60 Wireless iPod/iPhone allows users to dock their media player into a wireless cradle that magically streams tunes over to its dedicated speaker box located in another room. Add a remote control that for even less movement from your seat and you've got yourself an instant makeshift listening station...

Sadly, we don't find ourselves too fascinated by the concept of wireless streaming itself (well, we are, but just haven't found a company that's been able to master wireless streaming of 1080p material over the airwaves - which would be 100x more awesome), we do appreciate the friendlier sticker tag of $299 compared to Sony's S-Airplay MSRP of $399.

Throw in a pair of 3.25" speakers, a digital amp, and full integration with other yAired-supported devices like the recently announced (and certainly colorful) MLR-140 iPod dock, and they might just have themselves a winner.

yAired is a proprietary wireless streaming solution developed and supported by Yamaha. Unlike, say, Bluetooth, it has no compression, no latency, and no delay. Kind of like the Audioengine W1, but more Yamaha-y.

The Yamaha PDX-60 is available in black, blue, gray and pink for MSRP of $299.95.
