At Unplggd, we really like wireless stuff. Getting rid of the messy wires is part of our mission. That's why we were interested to find out that Yamaha's latest cradle is wireless. Sounds pretty cool, but is it worth it?
Well, it may be. It's one really nice looking dock, which combines a clock radio and an iPod/iPhone cradle. You can charge your iPhone or iPod on top of the device. Or you can attach Yamaha's AirWired cradle for remote operation. That's pretty cool when you want to change tunes. It gets annoying to go to the dock each time you want to change this. This kind of transforms your iPhone or iPod into a remote, although the device comes with a remote control.
We really like the retro-styling that's gone into this design. The clean lines make it stand out as a clock radio. The TSX-W80 will be available in December in Japan. There is no word yet on pricing. It comes in three different colors, with matching LED lights. If price is an issue, then maybe the TSX-70 model, which doesn't have the wireless option, might be a better choice.

Or, you could use Apple's free Remote App to play music from the iTunes library on your computer, and get that to your stereo somehow.
Although my mac and my stereo are on opposite sides of the house, I have an LAN ethernet jack near the stereo, and an Airport Express with a digital optical connection to my receiver. So I can sit on my sofa in the den and use my iPod touch to browse and control playback from my entire iTunes library.
Hi Max,
That's a really good tip!
