I'm usually a fan of everything chevron patterned, but in this case...I'm wondering if it's being taken too far. And what's more, I'd be afraid that I'd tire quickly of the accent then be left with a painted fan. So, tell me, readers:

Howard Butcher Bloc...
I think I would need to see it in action to decide, but it looks super cute when it's still.

Nay-ish. It makes a cheap fan look like a cheap painted fan. It doesn't matter that it's chevron; it just doesn't hide what it is. However, if it's a temporary solution to add some visual interest until you can save up for different lighting, then sure, why not.
I'd be able to answer if the fan actually had chevrons and not zig-zags. Chevrons are a very specific shape. If you add an extra line or two to a triangle...not a triangle. Same here.
We have two of these fans in our home. They are functional and there is no green reason to replace them. Yes, they are cheap ugly fans. I often think about stenciling them in some fashion and applaud this attempt. I switched the blades so the the faux bois appears!
What about if they were transfers that you could easily peel off when you'd had enough of the pattern? It'd definitely be a yes from me if that was the case and with all the decals out there now you could put anything on or make your own with contact paper.
Put a chevron on it! Saw this yesterday on D*S. I'm over chevrons... but that doesn't mean that's what you have to paint on it. It could be anything.
I see no reason to being against painting an ugly fan. And a fauxbois in a funky color could be kind of fun.
