At some point in time we give up many signs of our youth along the path to adult hood. We do away with stuffed animals and notebooks with unicorns on them, but sometimes we just can't help ourselves and need a little fun. What style shower curtain do you prefer? Crazy and kooky or calm and classy?
Bathrooms are a safe place to get a little wild (wink wink) and your shower curtain is an easy target for getting a little crazy. That said, many of us would much rather prefer something a little more tame or even a solid, neutral color.
Where do you stand on the issue? Are you for fun and funky or do you prefer boring and bland to blend in a bit more? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

White Enamel Flatwa...
I think there's room for both. I blogged recently about scary shower curtains...there's some pretty bloody ones out there!
I like my current shower curtain a lot. It is a kind of zen design of a tree branch from CB2. However, I am very tempted to get one that has a map of something like the Chicago El-stops on it. Then I could be learning something while I looked at it.
Classy in our master bath and main floor guest bath. A periodic table shower curtain in our downstairs guest bath connected to the guest bedroom. We're science nerds, but want MOST of our house to be a little mature :)
Whatever you're in the mood for, I personally prefer a fabric curtain though with a liner rather than a plastic curtain only. I like black and white prints on my shower curtain. By keeping my shower and window curtains in white with a black print, I can easily change out the colors of towels or rugs. Currently using Rock the Bath's Nature's Garden. I am holding the Thomas Paul Octopus in reserve (all modern had an opened outlet item for a great price).
I like using a "crazy" plastic shower curtain on the inside, facing into the shower (like the world map or SAT words ones) with a nice white cloth shower curtain on the outside. That way it looks classy from the outside, but I am entertained when I'm in the shower.
Our decor was always pretty neutral until we had our second son, and now I am surrounded by boys and their toys. As the sole woman of the house, I decided that I needed a dark pink shower curtain with rainbow dots (from Overstock). It feels a little silly and and a little like a bathroom from Saved by the Bell, but I love it. Seeing it always makes me happy.
Good question! I like both wacky and regular shower curtains, but now use only a clear one. It makes my tiny bathroom feel more spacious when I can look through the curtain and see out a window.
Also saw those bloody curtains - they have bloody bath mats, too at perpetualkid.com
My shower curtain is the Chicago el map, so I vote for a bit crazy. My bathroom is pretty plain and all white otherwise, so I needed a little something.
I'm all for a clean, mod-but-fun blend of kiddie and sleek. We were torn between CB2's Barbershop (cuz it's orange and cool) and Garnet Hill's Let It Rain (cuz it's Seattle therefore hilarious) curtains for our new guest bathroom, and we wound up going with the former because it was so much cheaper. I really like @salchichasmalas's idea of the fun one on the inside, though! If/when we feel the need to class it up, I'm totally doing that.
And I have some coworkers (at a video game company, surprise) who DIY'd their own scary murder curtain and towels with red dye. Eek. At least they didn't pay retail?
Love salchicasmalas idea! Unfortunately, my shower is so dark, my only real requirement is semi-transparent.
A bathroom apartment can be so boring!!!! We went for DUCKS. Bought yellow ducks from everywhere and turned a boring bathroom into something colorful. Wouldn't give up my ducks for any reason.
I vote for wild! Our shower curtain is homemade out of this ikea fabric with goats and mountains and cherry blossoms:

My man picked it out, specifying that he wanted it to be zany and unexpected...
Currently I have a fun but classy shower curtain. It's my floor that's crazy (in a good way !) But so goes the overall theme of my home. Kooky mixed with class all around.
It all depends on the bathroom. In our 1929 house, both of our bathrooms are very small (5x6 and 5x7) and we have found that busy shower curtains make them seem even smaller, as if that is possible. So, in the smaller bathroom, it is a white basket weave curtain; in the "larger" it is an off white on light sage pinstripe.
I have one that shows the scene from singing in the rain where Gene Kelly is hanging off the lamp post with his umbrella. I like to think it's at least a little classy.....
Weird assumptions. I don't think I associate mature with plain or boring.
Having said that however: I have always preferred a high quality clear curtain, with rust-proof grommets. I replace mine once every few years or so, and wash it in vinegar every few months.
Bright, fun, and crazy. Good way to start the day with a smile.
Shower stall. *shrug*
I have a tub, too, but we only use it to bathe, so no curtain.
Hey, where can I find the goldfish one in the picture?!! I love it and want it!
I like the shower curtain to be a bit more plain, but for artwork to be fun and bold. That way, it's a little bit of both.
Right now, I have a shower stall, so no need for a shower curtain.
What's great about shower curtains is that they are relatively cheap so you can do both depending on your mood. I love the comment by Salchichasmalas...crazy on the inside, calm on the outside. What a great idea!
Plain shower curtain because I've never found a decorative one I liked, but I've got 4 shelves of vinyl toys on the wall facing the mirror, so there's that. (I like that they're all right behind my head when I'm brushing my teeth and stuff in the morning).
I love kid underwater print (and my currently embroidered) shower curtains. Just makes shower time into happy time ^_^
I have that periodic table shower curtain that Urban Outfitters was selling for a while. (My roommate and I are both chemists.) Decorating around it was a bit of a challenge, but we used primary colors, and some lab glassware for storage. It's fun, but I can never find artwork that fits.
I am looking for a damask pattern or maybe another black and white pattern. So not super sedate and calm... but not goldfish. I am just not cheery enough in the morning to want to deal with anything cutesy.
If I have to choose, calm. A solid colour is fine by me.
I choose calm. I jump start the day after the shower with my first cuppa. I need to ease into the day. My all time most favorite curtain is gone, of course. It was a Martha Stewart K-Mart thing, when they were still friends. White falling leaves on an opaque background. With a curtain liner it's sedate, calming and beautiful. My daughter has used crazy/bright/fun/cheery in her homes and I always love visiting but to be with it full time, I just can't do it...too busy that early in the morning.
I vote for crazy. My apartment is a bit boho-chic and very simple. I bought a neon striped shower curtain for my lite sky blue and white bathroom. It added an incredible life to shower time. Granted I'm also an artist, so a lot of inspiration comes at the most unexpected times.
Calm. I'd rather add fun and exciting artwork and silly things elsewhere in the bathroom. The shower curtain takes up so much visual space, I think of it more as another wall.
I prefer calm myself. I like a spa-type ambiance in my bathroom (not that I'm anywhere close to achieving it). Plus I've noticed that colorful curtains tend to make the space look smaller.
I do love looking at crazy curtains, though, so more power to those that use them :)
I like the crazy ones in idea but practically i think i'd get over the crazy fast and the calm classy would always remain just that.. classy.
@egharttnet - so funny! my man picked that exact same fabric out for curtains I made for his music room! i love them thought - turned out perfect!
I have one that is a map of the world, people love it. In the master it is a beach scene. Mmm.
I bought a Thomas Paul Octopus curtain which is fun but still calm, everyone loves it and I'm always getting asked where I got it. Love it!
