If you looked out your window this morning and saw snow like we did — this post is for you. We're getting a little tired of the snow and long for bright yellow sunny days. We figured if we can't actually have those days that we'd fake it. Yellow is a pretty daring color to work with, but when done right, you wonder why there's no yellow in your own home.
Not everyone is going to run to Home Depot to pick up gallons of yellow paint to paint their kitchen cabinets, but it's refreshing to see that it can actually be done. If you're looking to go super bold, maybe you should consider adding yellow to your kitchen. If subtle is more your thing, find an amazing yellow throw to add to your bed. Yellow provides just enough pop to make a huge difference no matter how big the effort.
Yellow curtains have always been a dream of ours, especially on cold white days. It's not everyday you walk into a home with yellow curtains and we think they're an unexpected surprise that will definitely wow visitors. The good thing about yellow is that it plays well with others. If you have white walls or black walls — yellow goes with everything!

We didn't wake up to snow, but seeing the new yellow cutains in our art room/office was still very cheery this morning.
Those drapes in pic #4 are beautiful.
Now convinced I need a little more Yellow in my life.
I had a yellow bedroom as a child. Couldn't sleep properly until it was painted green. Perhaps I should keep the yellow to a workroom or common Living space.
I agree, those drapes in #4 are lovely.
I have a yellow kitchen, and some minor yellow accents throughout the house...I'm thinking of doing yellow curtains in the dining/living room (it's one big room). It really does make things quite cheerful, especially on sunny days.
I had a yellow bedroom as a young child, and hated it. Then when my husband and I moved into our first rental home, just abut every wall in the house (except the bathrooms) was painted some shade of yellow. We hated it, but weren't allowed to paint. I later read that yellow is very stimulating and can cause people to be more anxious, have higher blood pressure, and even to get in more arguments (especially if the yellow is in the bedroom). I'd say that seemed pretty true for us! We've since bought a home, and painted with lots of soothing blues and grays, and feel much calmer.
But yellow can be good as a little burst of color. We painted the half bath with charcoal gray vertical stripes, and added bright yellow hand towels, and a couple of other small, strategically placed yellow accents. It plays really nicely with the gray, adding a dose of cheer without being overwhelming. Its given me a new appreciation for yellow -- although I won't be painting any walls yellow ever again!
Some yellows don't work with black, and some change their appearance unexpectedly as the light changes. An orangeish yellow is energizing, and cheery on a gray day. Yellow accents with green can be very pretty.
Ok... that first pic. Adorable. I LOVE it.
I'm all for cheery yellow amid bleak winter. A couple weeks ago, I painted yellow stripes on my nursery ceiling!

Agreed. Sunny, clear golden yellow curtains are a natural.
Love me some yellow!
The perfect way to brighten a snow day is to buy tickets to a warm climate. :o)
