I feel like my life is less routine than most, in both a good and a bad way. I have my personal rituals that keep me on track and set the tone for the day, like checking my email over a latte and walking the dogs, but after that portion of the day is over my career as a freelancer sends me all over the place. I might be out on a shoot, holed away editing for days, or taking meetings at local cafes.
I think that as we move into the future, when more of us will be working in careers where we can telecommute and companies rely more heavily on consultants and freelancers instead of traditional employees, we will have more freedom in our daily routine. The downside is that many of us were raised to follow a schedule, given routine and discipline through schooling and other institutions. It can be tougher to keep on track when every day is so different.
Do you thrive on routine? How do you keep yourself on track if you are a freelancer like me?
