Cute, cozy little bedroom, right? That blue color is lovely and the salon wall arrangement above the bed is just the right touch for the space. But, oh... what's that bedside table made from?

It's a vintage IBM computer tower.

I spotted this clever re-purposing in Jen and Eric's Colorful Mid-Century Home. As a nod to Eric's IT career (he's a principal engineer with Puppet Labs), they've brought in a pair of vintage IBM hard drives to serve as nightstands in their bedroom.

Sight unseen, I would imagine that using old computer hardware as furniture would look sloppy, like something out of a tech school dorm room or Silicon Valley garage circa 1983. But this really works in the space for two reasons: It's just the right size and proportion, and everything on and around the nightstands is impeccably styled.
