After getting married in March, Shannon and Aaron Hase struggled to find unique and reasonably priced furniture for their new home. Frustrated with traditional furniture stores, they hit the road, traveling up and down the East Coast in search of obscure boutiques and off-the-beaten-track antique stores. After hauling their finds back to DC, they discovered a little elbow grease and a lot of imagination could transform their finds into one-of-a-kind classics. When dinner party guests started commissioning pieces of their own, Yuppie Decor was born...
Yuppie Decor made its first public appearance in May at Eastern Market, and sold out that first day. Less than four months after the business was born, Aaron and Shannon sell pieces as quickly as they can create them. Though they are searching for the perfect space to open a bricks-and-mortar store, right now you can find them on the internet at The District Design.
Before and After
The prices at Yuppie Decor are reasonable (the black and white polka-dot chair above is only $45), and Aaron and Shannon are friendly and accessible. If you happen to have a piece you would like remade, they'll be happy to help, from offering design tips to actually doing the work itself if you're not a DIY-er. If you're in the market for a particular style, drop them a line and they'll keep an eye open when shopping for just the right piece to meet your needs.
Best of all, Aaron and Shannon are big fans of AT, so if you do contact them about buying or commissioning a piece, please let them know you heard about Yuppie Decor here!
