Catering to attendees of local sand sculpture festivals, Zand Hotel in the Netherlands has opened the world's first sand hotels. Located in the towns of Sneek and Oss, each hotel is just one bedroom hidden inside a large sand sculpture.
The walls and floors of the rooms are covered in sand and the rooms include several small sand sculptures. There are windows in the rooms, but the structural integrity only allows for small ones, i.e. not a destination for the claustrophobic. The hotel exteriors are covered in sand sculptures—30 of them each—with a Terracotta Army vibe.
Like the ice hotels in Sweden and Finland, the sand hotels are only a temporary pop-up attraction but there are plans to bring them back next year.
