Name: Zoey Kumiko (5 months)
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Color Inspiration: One of the first gifts I received when I found out I was pregnant with Zoey was a box of Charley Harper memory cards. I thought they were just darling! Graphic drawings, adventurous colors and best of all-- it was easy on mommy's eyes! I envisioned her room to have the same feel-- playful and inviting, yet sophisticated in its own inspiring way. I ended up framing some of the cards and they now find their home on top of an antique kitchen hutch that my husband and I turned into a bookshelf.
Tip for Using Color: Don't go too matchy-matchy. Be open to new colors-- even if they don't fit in with your original plan. You might surprise yourself! :) Half the things in her room I got not knowing exactly how I was going to use them, but determined to make them work somewhere! I handpicked items based on how their individual colors, patterns and design fit together as a single entity-- not because they had the same shade of mustard yellow! An emerald side chair at a garage sale, 2 yards of Amy Butler fabric in tangerine and a slew of Liberty of London fabric storage bins in three different color combinations. Friends sometimes comment "I never thought of using those colors together!"
I ended up with an elegant room full of vibrant colors that all work together, oh-so-well! Don't just pick what you like... wait for something you absolutely love! Zoey's room is my own haven...my happy place. I hope she grows to feel the same way about it!
Colors Used: Robin's egg blue and mustard yellow were my initial color inspiration. But eventually I added many variations of fuscia, dusty rose, emerald green and tangerine. To give the room some uniformity amidst the schmorgesborg of colors-- I chose to keep all of the furniture (minus the lovely green chair) a variety of antique white and the hardware a dark walnut color.
Thanks for your colorful entry Andy and good luck!

Howard Butcher Bloc...
Simply breathtaking. What a gorgeous, subtle, playful use of color and whimsy... simultaneously modern and nostalgic. Makes me want to be a wee baby girl again and move right in. Cheers and well done!
Love it. Where did you find that gorgeous rug? It's exactly what I'm looking for.
I want her room! Seriously, it's gorgeous enough for Zoey to grow up in, yet baby enough to be perfect for a tiny one now! beautiful!
I also need that rug! Fantastic!
nice work on the name-hanging. creative use of font!
lucky baby!!! love everything about her room!
Lovely!
It's gorgeous, but also maybe a little too busy. But I wouldn't complain if someone recreated that in my house!
Beautiful! This room is just like sunshine - it makes me smile.
what a fabulous room! I am wondering if the rug and curtains came from Anthropologie (or as my friend calls it, The Temple of Loveliness :) ........
I absolutely Love the color combination! You designed it perfectly!
LOVE EVERYTHING... especially the handmade dolls and the robot!!!
Love every detail of it...simple, charming & warm--perfect baby room!
zoey's mama here... thank you, thank you for all the lovely comments, everyone! you have brightened up my day!
@chupcakes, @melglynn— the rug is indeed from "the temple of loveliness" (teehee) aka anthropologie! and the curtains, i made from some very inexpensive ikea fabric.
Love the Liberty of London bins. I wanted to get some at Target but really had not room for them.
Beautiful! Could you share the paint color name & brand?
Room tour! room tour! room tour! room tour!
I want that room. Now.
where is the fabric hanging above the crib from? It's gorgeous! Love the whole room!
I love this room, but I feel like the color of the photos is a little bit off? Would love to see more.
Lovely room!!!
gorgeous and soothing! not to babyish which i love! A place i could spend hours in!
After browsing this site for weeks I had to register today so I could vote for your room! What a wonderful, peaceful space you've created!
I love this room. What is stuffed in the bird cage?
This room is really really lovely.
Beautiful!!
These pictures blow me away. All of it together truly looks like a haven and each individual piece just looks so fun! That is one lucky baby and one seriously talented mama.
Gorgeous. And the rug totally makes it.
I really truly love this room! Some of the contests impress me with their bright color schemes but seem like they might be too hard to deal with long term. This is the sort of thing that I find exciting and could easily live with- and keep loving.
This is perfect!! I love it so much! Can you tell us the paint color?
Gorgeous! I'd love to know where the crib was purchased. It's just modern enough! Love that green chair too. I want this room in my house and I don't even have a baby...so soothing & yet still fun! Great job!!!
This room is perfect! Great job!
Beautiful classic colors which could easily transition as the child gets older. Outstanding job.
Absolute perfection.
i like the animals on the shelf..where did you get those from?
My favorite Ohdeedoh room EVER!!! Room tour!!
hi...zoey's mama again. wow, i continue to be so encouraged by your kind words—thank you!!
@whimsygirls and @kim w— paint color is benjamin moore's robin's nest
@knittel— the fabric over the crib is echino by etsuko furuya in oilcloth
@krystab221— the birdcage is stuffed with a couple hundred origami cubes lovingly folded by friends and family for zoey's shower :)
@sweetjacobs— the crib is an oeuf sparrow that we scored off of craig's list
@missmama—i made the owl on the shelf and the cat was a gift from my sister and is made by deglingos
The other rooms are cute, but Zoey's is my absolute favorite!
Gorgeous room!! Love everything!!
I NEED that rug!! LOL! Really, I do! That color is no longer available at Anthropologie though. : ( Does anyone know where I might find something similiar in that color??
I adore Zoey's handmade haven! I love all of the colors, patterns, fabrics, furniture...Very inspiring. Zoey is one lucky lil' girl!
Room is so beautiful! Has a peaceful, inviting, soft, and cheery ambience - so right for a little girl!
This is so beautiful! It does look like the photos have been desaturated though. Benjamin Moore's Robin's Nest is definitely more vibrant than it appears here. Anyway, I just love all of this. Nicely done!
Its my absolute favorite! You and your husband are both so talented! Some of the other rooms were too bright for my taste. Yours is very calming and will grow with Zoey. I especially like that so much thought went into each piece with mommy and daddy being so hands on in creating it! Hope you win!
I voted for you! Your room is much more appropriate for a baby. Some of those other entrants, like Into the Woods, would give a baby a headache. I love the folded balls inside your birdcage.
Absolutely pretty & whimsical, I think, every child's room should be like this,so that they could grow into them & not be heavy on the bank a few years down the lane :) A job well done!
Pretty, pretty, pretty!
Zoey's mama - is that a glider peaking out from the left hand side of the first picture? If so, what kind and do you like it? Thanks!
rchamberlain- zoey's mama here—hi! we love the glider! it is SO comfy—i usually have to kick my husband out of it! the cushions are super fluffy, but hold their form and the fabric is nice and soft. the chair swivels AND glides! it was a hand-me-down from one of zoey's cousins, but i've seen it at babies r us. i believe it's a newco classic glider in 'viva beach' color.
I absolutely love this room! I was wondering what the paint color in the little nook is - the butter cream color. Thanks!
maria taylor—hello! the color in the diaper changing nook is olympic's shell flower (a16-3) in satin from lowes. its a yummy color! :)
I really LOVE this area rug!!! Can someone tell me where it's from or where to find one? Thanks!
ok ladies, sorry. i just saw that the rug is from anthropolgie. this room is really gorgeous. what a lucky baby!!!
I love this room. Where did you get the rug?
Love this! Please can you tell me where I can buy the chandelier? : )
Wow.. you incredibly talented. Where did you get the chandelier and changing pad cover??
Hi Zoey's mom! I know it's been awhile since you built this beautiful nursery; but, I was wondering if you could tell me the company that makes the rug? I know you got it from Anthropologie; but, since it's no longer available, I may be able to look it up from the brand name on the back! The colors you used in here are the same that we chose! And this rug hold my heart! :-) If you could please tell me who makes it you could make my day! I have a little girl on the way!!!
@kikibrowsin- i'm so sorry, i just now saw your comment. i looked on the backside of the rug and sadly, there is no company name on the tag :( just directions and material info. so sorry!
I was able to find the rug at Anthropologie, but they no longer offer the yellow color. The name of the rug is "Coqo Floral Rug."
