A different kind of Murphy Bed, one that's remote controlled and doesn't pull down, but rather, slides down a vertical track on wooden slats, by
Zoom-Room. The cabinet is only 24" deep and only needs to be clear of items just in front of where the bed comes out, perfect for the tiniest of studios.

with this model you'll still need an extra 7' - 8' of hiding space. how many studios (esp. in new york) really have that already??? the home above looks like a one-bedroom.. unless the bed above is tucked in a hall or kitchen or bathroom located behind that wall... am i the only one not getting how this bed is being stored? was the wall built around the bed cabinet?
*Heatherleaf* - go to the site and look at the little flash demo of how it works to see it in action...but basically, it's stored vertically behind the TV area, and as it comes out, it's bent to be horizontal. It's a latex mattress so that it can bend that way.
thanks, kate! yeah, i checked out how it works (*blushes*) and wished i could retract my first comment. oh, well!
Long story short... perfect for latex fetish but horrible for those who are allergic to latex.

It's $7000! For a guest bed!
