Closer Look: The Quirky Details in this Classic Family Home
There’s a lot to love about Charlotte and Tom’s Charming 1904 Family Home in London. They’ve made it a priority to retain their old home’s original charm, and decorate in a way that feels really genuine–eschewing trends in favor of classic, colorful pieces. Thankfully, there’s still some room for fun, quirky details, too.
Two of my favorite things in this home come from Charlotte and Tom’s daughter’s room. On the door, Lola’s name is spelled out with alphabet cards, an enjoyable detail that could work just as well in a grown-up space.
Another highlight of Lola’s room is this light fixture, a chandelier made from science-kit-issue plastic magnifying glasses. It’s by Habitat, but seemingly unavailable anymore, so you’ll have to put on your DIY hat to get this look.
Here’s an idea: Use a medicine cabinet to display a collection of loved treasures, rather than toiletries, in the bathroom.
I have to admit this neon sign is what won me over on my first pass through Charlotte and Tom’s house tour. The girly show theme is more befitting of a bachelor pad than a family home, but it seems to bring a fun spirit to the front-facing living room (they have two), which I’m getting the sense is the more adult entertaining spot, with the bar cart and all.
