10 Events Celebrating Frank Lloyd Wright’s 150th Birthday

June 8 marks the 150th anniversary of Frank Lloyd Wright’s birth. If you’re a fan of the starchitect, then there are plenty of ways to celebrate the momentous day. Here are a few of them.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is working with museums and sites across the country for the historic day, which means lots of fun stuff no matter where you happen to be. Excitingly, tour admission to several of the icon’s works will be just $1.50 on June 8, including Taliesin West, the Guggenheim Museum, Darwin Martin House, Marin County Civic Center, Price Tower, Monona Terrace and Rosenbaum House.

In addition to the special admission price, the Guggenheim will also have special events going on throughout June, including architecture tours of the building, sketching workshops, raffles, after hours admission, and more.

Then, head to Midtown and the Museum of Modern Art for their exhibit, “Frank Lloyd Wright at 150: Unpacking the Archive” that showcases a retrospective of Wright’s work, key moments, themes and inspiration in Wright’s life.

The Darwin Martin House and Graycliff in Buffalo, New York have a week of events starting June 5, including a lecture series, a DIY design day, and a “24 hours at Graycliff” event with campfires and stargazing.

The David Wright House in Phoenix, Arizona will host a day long open house on June 8 featuring an Insta-worthy balloon installation from LA’s Geronimo Balloons meant to match its iconic carpet.

The Robie House in Chicago will be free and open to the public on June 8 from 6 to 8pm (but you have to RSVP). Same goes for the Bach House, which will be open from 4 to 7pm. The Unity Temple in nearby Oak Park will reopen after its extensive restoration to celebrate on Saturday, June 17 from 2 to 5pm.

Eddie’s House, the FLW-designed doghouse, will be on public view for the first time at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael, California.

Last but certainly not least, Fallingwater will be hosting a special lecture series from June through August. It kicks off on June 17 with “What is Organic Architecture Anyway?” There’s also a special exhibit, “Wright for Wright: The Experimental Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Homes,” that’s on display now through December.
