We definitely have a soft spot for beautifully made wood furniture — clean lines, gorgeous grains and colorful stains make us swoon. Besides being gorgeous pieces on their own, the fact that they're made with reclaimed wood, FSC-certified, and eco-friendly stains and sealants bring them up a very green notch. 1 Miles & May:This Geneva, New York-based company makes reclaimed and sustainable furniture with an emphasis on using cast-off, or scrag, wood that larger manufacturers reject. The collection features over 50 designs that feature a variety of styles, such as sleek and modern or highly textured — each inspired by the wood from which it was made.
2 André Joyau: For over 20 years Andre Joyau has been creating modern, handcrafted furniture from sustainable materials such as hand-selected managed forestry plantations, reclaimed wood and salvaged industrial objects. His collection includes both children's and adult furniture, as well as wood screens, home accessories and lighting.
3 Green Sawn: A growing Chicago based company, Green Sawn makes modern furniture made from reclaimed lumber and locally sourced wood. They fabricate furniture, countertops, cabinets and doors customized or ready made shown on their website.
4 Uhuru: Uhuru is a design/build company well-known for creating furniture pieces from reclaimed, salvaged, or recycled materials. Their most recent lines include a collection made from reclaimed taken from Coney Island and another collection made primarily from a single large, rough slab of felled wood.
5 Kerf: Kerf's design philosophy is to make simple, functional and beautiful pieces of furniture. All of their products are made with FSC-certified plywood, a formaldehyde free glue, and finished using a UV curing process that eliminates all VOCs. Kerf stocks 16 different colors of laminate, and everything is designed and built in their Seattle studio. In addition to their furniture, Kerf also provides affordable DIY cabinets that are flat-packed and shipped to finish on site.
6 SchubLaden: This German furniture company specializes in reusing salvaged one-off drawers housed in a MDF or solid wood structure. Ranging in size and style, each piece is unique and tells a story of the drawers they contain.
7 April Hannah: April Hannah's children's furniture, the Tree Table Collection, is made from substantial one-inch, FSC-certified, formaldehyde-free plywood with non-toxic finishes.
8 TEAM 7: Team 7 is a leading manufacturer of modern, green, non-toxic solid wood furniture. The company behind TEAM 7, Batinau Design Group, had its beginnings in Europe, where it produced solid hardwood furnishings through a low-waste and low-energy manufacturing processes that used ecologically sound and sustainable methods and materials. They now bring this timeless and beautiful aesthetic to America using renewable, reused or recyclable, non-toxic, and sustainably managed materials, and many of their products are certified under a number of third-party green organizations.
9 Sundance: Sundance Catalog has always been a reliable resource for eco-friendly home goods, and their furniture selection is no exception. Most of their pieces are either antiques or made from reclaimed wood sourced from old schools, barns and buildings.
10 Nightwood: Nightwood's collection is like a patchwork of reclaimed wood and fabric transformed into couches, chairs, credenzas, desks, tables, and shelving. Nightwood considers this process as a 'reconstruction' of found wood and furniture into an artful arrangement of finishes and colors — the result is nothing short of beautiful.
