Designer Nate Berkus shared his summer style with us:

The Color of Summer 2012:
I don't subscribe to the whole trend thing. A magazine says red is the must have color one month and then the next it's blue. Then, what happens? Suddenly you and your red throw pillows are out. I say go with what you love. Whether it's gray, yellow or pink, if you love it, there's a place for it in your home.

All Time #1 Vacation Location:
Patmos, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, is a favorite. First, it's stunningly beautiful. Second, it's simple. Your biggest choice for the day is whether you want to stop floating on the raft you're on and go and get a cocktail. By day two, I totally stop checking my blackberry...by day three I've totally forgotten about the rest of the world. It's where I go to get re-inspired.

Hotel You'd Love to Escape To:
The Amangalla in Sri Lanka is fantastic. It's like stepping into another world... like a bygone era. And the spa there is insane. I really shouldn't be telling you this because I'd like it to stay a well-kept secret. Also, Las Nubes de Holbox in Mexico. It's seriously a slice of paradise.

Most Prized Souvenir from Your Travels:
I believe your home should tell your story, and a big part of my story is TRAVEL. My home's filled with items that were hauled home from a world away. Picking one would be impossible. I guess I'm partial to one particularly large ceramic pineapple I found in Mexico. It's three feet tall so I had to ship it home. Somehow, along the way, it got chipped. But, I love that chip. Each time I look at it reminds me of Fernando and I trying to cram it into the box to get it back here.

Planted in the Garden this Year:
I don't have a garden but I do love to bring the outside in... at least as much as you can in New York. I try to always have fresh flowers in my apartment and I've just "greened" my terrace with Foxwood Pines and English Ivy. I added plenty of small brass bowls from my Nate Berkus Collection (exclusively at Target) to the table for tea lights. The shine off the brass really helps to catch the light.

Favorite Patio in the World:
The Alisal Ranch in Solvang, CA. It's a combination of the views and the quietness that make it utterly perfect.

Must Have Item for Summer Entertaining:
The right people. I live by a "the more the merrier" policy when it comes to parties. I always make sure to sit people together that will have plenty to talk about or discover about one another. That's what makes the night memorable... showing up to a party that you might have been a bit too tired for and discovering that you laughed the night away.

Most Refreshing Summertime Drink:
Patrón silver and soda is my go-to drink for the summer.

Essential Song for Your Party Playlist:
Payphone by Maroon 5. Hands down!

Best Book in the Beachbag:
This is where I leave you by Jonathan Tropper.

Thanks, Nate!
