#16 The Barak’s Strong & Dramatic Med to Mod
Location: “SoRo” Los Angeles, CA
Type: 2 Bdrm/Owned
Why I use color:We bought this modern Mediterranean style condo with all white walls and architectural details such as ductwork cornices and pillars and beams. We wanted to de-emphasize the Mediterranean style and make it modern style. We used four very strong colors to bring out the various flat surfaces and saturate the open plan lower level with extreme color.
The fifth color is a subtle sky blue on the ceiling. The space seems larger, not smaller with the deep colors and these particular four were suggested by a friend who is a designer/artist. Everyone entering for the first time is shocked and impressed with the dramatic effect. Paint is a great way to alter the style of an interior space, and our Med to Modern scheme is so strong we don’t even notice the lack of artwork on the walls.
2 Good color tips:
1. Don’t be afraid of dark or intense colors
2. Use multiple complimentary colors to create sections in an open plan space
2 good color resources:
1. Copy colors you see and like in public spaces
2. Get inspiration from objects such as toys or gadgets
