Name: Cedra
Location: Downtown, NYC
Type: Studio--350 SQ FT - Owned

Why I use color:

Color can revitalize an apartment and in turn, its owner! In July I broke up with my boyfriend and left town. When I came home, my cousin had repainted my entire studio apartment a pale chartreuse and hung blue curtains on the windows and new artwork on the walls...

She even made the zebra fabric pillowcase! I'm from the desert and the photo above the bed was taken by a friend on a motorcycle trip through California. Its the first thing you see when you enter the apartment. The apartment feels totally new and very serene and I was very happy to come home to a different environment. I never would have picked the colors myself but I love the combinations and the shot of color that wraps you when you walk into the room.

We'd painted the hallway a medium gray in 2006 and the coolness of that color compliments the cool greens and blues in the main room.

2 Good color tips:

Take a risk--move past colors you see everywhere.

Don't be afraid to mix colors, even in a small space.

Favorite type and brand of paint:

Benjamin Moore, eggshell finish. It's easy to clean and doesn't show irregularities in old walls as well as a flat finish.
