Although GIFs have been around since the early days of the internet, not everyone knows how to actually create one. GIFs are a creative way to display more than just a plain still image and they're also quicker and more accessible than video. Here are a couple of ways to have some fun creating GIFs of your very own.
GIF Shop is an app for the iPhone that makes creating GIFs relatively easy. For those times when you want more than just a still image to accompany your tweet (or if you're just feeling creative), GIF Shop allows you to upload your GIFs straight to Twitter, Facebook and even Tumblr, directly from the app. The app also hosts the GIF so you can email or text a link.
Cinemagraphs are a GIF-making technique in which only a small portion of the image actually moves. Instead of a fully moving image, the composition of the GIF is more cinematic and the image looks as if it's coming to life. The movie-like effect is stunning and this tutorial from Photojojo walks you through the fairly simple process step-by-step (some basic Photoshop skills required).
