Location: Skokie, Illinois
Type: Ranch home, owned

Why we use color: It brings life and contrast into our space, and creates depth where we need it. Used properly, it can create balance and harmony with minimal strain on your resources.
The photos shown are of the downstairs home studio we created for not only relaxing & entertaining, but working on our art and design projects as the design team of F2 (glass, painting, photography, etc).

This space was a dark, dusty dungeon when we moved in and we redid the floors, painted, installed lighting, etc. It was a complete room renovation on a very, very, very tight budget. The bar area in the back is the original bar that was built with the home in 1951. It guided us in our color choices since we wanted to keep this bar area intact. We needed a space to work (although we don't actually make glass here!) and we wanted it to be be well designed, too.

2 Good color tips:
1. Less is more.

2. Know yourself (or at least, try and figure it out). Use colors that reflect who you are and what your lifestyle is about. The more you know, the more focused your color choices will be.

2 Good color resources:
1. Nature, the elements.

2. The local art store's paint section.
