I liked a lot of what I saw in Jill and Dan’s colorful Portland home, but there was one element I couldn’t ignore: How they’ve collected, stored and displayed their travel memories over the years.

Throughout the year, when their family travels, they collect small items. Each jar holds one location, and the objects range from money, to ticket stubs to matchbooks and more. As you can see below, each jar is simply labeled with the location and the year they took the trip.

Jill and Dan say they were inspired by an idea they spotted on Young House Love, but the way they neatly labeled their jars and found a place for them to all live in their home has inspired me.

I’m either a throw-it-all-away kind of traveler or my bits and bobbles collect at the bottom of a bag or drawer for years. The idea of containing and displaying travel mementos like this is charming and clean. I’ll be putting it on my 2016 to-do list for any travels I might take!
