Why we have a crush on this property

A few words come to mind when describing a houseboat: whimsical, cheery, cute. But spacious? In the case of this one-bedroom boat for sale on Seattle’s Lake Portage, it is spacious indeed.

While 675 square feet may not seem like much, it’s certainly larger than plenty of studio apartments in New York City. Each square foot aboard the boat is used to its full potential, thanks to under- and over-head storage, as well as shelving, alcoves, and slim closets. Plus, high barreled ceilings make for an extra roomy-feeling living area.

The contemporary-style boat is sleek inside and out. Green trim, a rounded roof, and a spiral staircase on the exterior add personality to the already-unique abode, while inside, concrete and quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a copper bathroom sink make the place shine.

The home’s living spaces spread across two floors. The bottom deck makes room for a kitchen with an island and bar stools, plus a farmhouse sink and a gas range. The living area can fit a good-size couch, while a nearby row of bookshelves completes what could be a perfect reading nook. The bathroom is outfitted with heated tile flooring and a standup shower, and around the corner, a washer and dryer fit in a small closet.

Upstairs, the bedroom offers built-in under-the-bed storage and enough wall space for a mounted television. There’s also access to an upper deck—the perfect spot for a few chaise lounges. The bottom porch, meanwhile, comes with a swim board attached. The watery plot itself offers a mooring for a small boat, lest you feel like setting out on an afternoon paddle.
