Name: Val Rousseau
Location: Santa Clara
Type: own home, 50’s cottage, 1166sq ft

Why I use color:

When we purchased our home in 2004, I decided right away, no wall would be white! We moved in and immediately painted this front living room/dining room robins egg blue and brown. We wanted a laid back but slightly sophisticated feel. Since then I have painted every room in the house, from bright hot pink to avocado green. I love color and couldn’t imagine living in a house without tons of it!. . .

. . .The first photo is one half of the large room that is the dining room. The second photo is the other half of the room that is the living room. Each room make up one large room that is the main living space of the house.

2 good color tips:

1. Don’t be afraid! You can ALWAYS paint over it!

2. Look at your wardrobe and see what colors you favor most.

2 good color resources:

1. We got our color idea from a magazine layout of things that are light blue and brown, so find inspiration in unlikely places.

2. Fabric. Find fabric you like and choose colors from it.
