#49 – Narida’s Art Deco Vibe Bathroom
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Type: 2 bedroom house/Own
Why I use color: I use color because it gives me the opportunity to personalize my space according to my style and interests. My bungalow was built in the 20’s so I wanted my bathroom to have an Art Deco vibe. I chose a color for this space that would complement the black and white of the tile while still allowing the room to feel fresh and lively. My bungalow does not have a lot of built-ins, so the niches I had built were a practical yet decorative way to add storage in a relatively small space. I painted the molding and the niches white to give them some “pop” against the wall color.
2 Good color tips:
1. Colors that relate to your hobbies and interests are a good starting point for a color palette for your home. For instance, I love the outdoors – especially in the Fall – so I was immediately drawn to earthy colors – e.g. shades or brown, green and terra cotta when I painted the interior of my home.
2. Look to your wardrobe for color options. I believe that the colors you like to wear can have a place on your wall or as accessories used as accents throughout the home. The techniques you apply to coordinate an outfit are also at work when styling your home.
2 Good color resources:
1. I like the show Get Color! on HGTV. It further highlights how everyday inspiration can translate into a beautiful space that reflects an individual’s personality and interests.
2. Benjamin Moore’s Personal Color Viewer. Allows you to paint sample photos or your own digital photos to get an initial idea of how a color can look in your space.
