It doesn’t take as much time as you might think to set yourself up for success all year long. Before this new month ends, consider tackling these two tasks. They won’t take you more than five minutes to accomplish a piece, but their positive effects will resonate all year long.

1. Turn your hangers all in the same direction

This is one of my favorite clothes decluttering tools that absolutely anyone with a closet and hangers can implement to make their lives a little bit better throughout the year. By turning all your hangers “backwards” at the beginning of the year, as you take hangers out of your closet and put them back in your normal day-to-day use, you’ll be able to clearly see which clothes you’re not wearing. This will make decluttering your closet easier throughout the year when it comes time to lighten your wardrobe; you’ll be able to see which clothes you haven’t even taken out of your closet.

2. Schedule catch-up days now

Take a minute or two to look through your upcoming 2016 calendar. No, you won’t know every single event that’s happening in the next 12 months, but you can look to your past year in 2015 to have an idea of the times when you were the most stressed and overwhelmed. The times that you needed an extra day to get the house back on track or catch up on work (or sleep). Consider building in some catch-up days in 2016; days where you don’t schedule anything on them so you keep them free for catching up on anything you need or want!
