A Weird (and Wonderful) New Trend: Black and Green in the Kitchen
Here’s a weird kitchen trend I’ve been seeing a lot of lately, and that I can’t help but love: green and black in the kitchen. Usually this means green cabinets and black marble countertops, but it plays out it all sorts of ways, all of them quite lovely. Colorful kitchens have fallen out of fashion a bit lately, so it’s refreshing to see something this unapolegetically dramatic. (Not to mention that black and green is a great combination in pretty much any room.) Let’s take a closer look.

I couldn’t be more in love with this kitchen from blah. It’s so austere and so indulgent all at the same time: the detailing is very minimal, but the colors are just so luxurious. Photographed by Jonas Ingertedt for Elle Decoration.
I think this is only a bar, but there’s plenty of kitchen inspiration in this space from My Domaine. Here we have green cabinets and a black countertop again, but this time with matching green tile. The way the cabinets are set into the wall is a particularly nice detail.

This kitchen, by Gisbert Poeppler, features light green cabinets, with a contrasting dark green marble countertop. A tall black toekick helps to balance everything out. The overall effect is very luxurious, proving that kitchens don’t have to be strictly utilitarian spaces.
Here’s one more stunning black and green space, from Marie Claire Maison. I love how the black walls that form the ‘shell’ of this kitchen are slowly peeled away to reveal the emerald green inside. It’s almost like a geode — an unassuming exterior with a beautiful surprise inside.
