Sigh. This is Clare’s cute little outdoor space in a beach side Australian town. Once you’re done day-dreaming about what that must be like, check out how Clare creatively revamped her space on the cheap.

From Clare: This is our little balcony off the master bedroom in our beach side apartment. We have a patio off the living room too & we found we were only using the balcony to hang laundry so decided to create our little “lovers corner” up there. We had the World War II era trunk in the garage, something that was handed down to me by my dad, so we simply turned it into a little lounge with some cushions. This works well because in rainy weather we can store the cushions inside the trunk. The chair was a roadside find and the table is form IKEA. The hanging mobile I made from left over glass pieces from a friend who is a glass artist. We added a pendant light to the original light fitting and hanged it over the table. It really only took us an afternoon to create this space & the only challenging part was lugging the big old trunk up all the stairs.

Now we find we use this little nook so much! There’s only room for the two of us so it’s our special little spot where we have a glass of wine and eat cheese and chat for hours in the evening or we eat our muesli and fruit in the morning sun up there in the tree tops with the birds chirping over looking the pool.

It’s such a nice space and it only really cost us a pendant light and small table, the rest of the things we had already or were found or created. By simply having that tiny little extra outdoor room it’s made our apartment feel so much bigger!
