Personally, having lived through that decade the first time around, it doesn't really work for me as retro or nostalgic. However, for kids too young to remember the 80s, it reads as fun, poppy, unique and a little rebellious; they can't seem to get enough. Retro 80's fashion has been huge on the youth market for many years now, so it must be working.
I can definitely see the appeal of this salon towards the younger market — I think it will be a success. Now I just want to hear the soundtrack playing in there.
