A Cool Concrete Kids' Room

Most often we think of kids' rooms as padded places to play. There are carpets, rugs, round corners... but not in this Milwaukee home. This cool concrete space is just what their architect parents had in mind!

Patrick Jones and Alexandra Ramsey set out to build in the Riverwest neighborhood of Milwaukee. They wanted to be green, efficient and to do most of the work themselves. This room was built for their two children ages 2 and 4.

The parents say it's been an interesting experience in that the kids love to ride their bikes throughout the home on the smooth floors but were in for a shock when it came to throwing temper tantrums. The kids changed the way they would start their fits and sit down, then lay down gently before starting in on their pity party. The floor is warmed by radiant heat and the large windows do their best to allow in as much light as possible during the day for super charged play time!

The rest of the house is just as beautiful as this space, make sure to take a look over at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
