The Unofficial Franklin Park Research Outpost is a hand built structure in Jamaica Plain's Franklin Park by artist Brandon Nastanski. The rustic space is meant to be discovered accidentally by visitors to the park who can view and contribute to the collections of found objects and curiosities on display.

The outpost looks both creepy and fascinating and though it's unofficial public art, it's a unique project that serves as an apt reminder of how easy it can be to escape the ordinary, even in the heart of the city. The Boston Phoenix featured a great article about Nastanski's piece that included more photographs and an interesting critique of Boston's public art offerings.
