A Look Inside Jamie Lynn Sigler's "Dramatic Take on Traditional" Home

Project by: Ryan White of Ryan White Designs
Location: Los Angeles, California

Jamie Lynn Sigler will forever be known for her work on The Sopranos. These days, she's busy in her acting career and at home, as a mom to a young family. She collaborated with designer Ryan White to create a beautiful, modern take on traditional design in her home and has shared it with Apartment Therapy. Ryan writes, "Jamie's an actress. She's bold, brave and dramatic in her work. We wanted this house to have a sense of that. The bones are traditional, but the moments peppered throughout are showstoppers like the green suede walls in the bar/music room and the richly patterned Kelly Wearstler wallpaper we chose in the dining room." Read on for tons of photos and more info from the designer and his well-known client.

What surprised you about building a home from the ground up? How was the experience different from any house hunting you've done before? Jamie: I think the main difference with this house versus any house we've ever been in before is that we felt like this could really be our forever home. For that reason we wanted to take the time and invest so it would be everything we would want in a house. This is a house we see growing with and growing our family with. With the open floor plan it really allowed us to fulfill our entertaining dreams too.

What were your major sources of inspiration? Jamie: Honestly, comfort is the most important thing to us. Not just because of kids, but for us too and for our friends. We like to have long days of having people over, movie marathons and lots of cooking and music. Each room I think is inviting and reflects that. Our designer Ryan White really helped us figure out how to do that while adding lots of style and dimension that we didn't gravitate towards before him.

What are your favorite aspects of your new home? Jamie: I love how each room is its own world yet it flows. With the hunter green entry music room, to our dining room with the Kelly Wearstler wall paper, each room really has its own life. Before Ryan we were all white, beige, brown everything. He really pushed our boundaries in the best way possible. I'm also obsessed with our master bedroom. It's sooo tranquil with all the blues and whites, and I never would have thought to have a leather headboard and frame, but it's so cozy and smells amazing.

From Ryan: The moment you meet Jamie you're struck by her genuine warmth. Her home had to encapsulate that, which, let's be honest, isn't always a given in new construction. New homebuilders have started to land the larger closets and marble kitchen islands we love but often leave the architecture lacking in personality. Jamie and I worked to bake that in, to give her a home that wouldn't feel like every other house on the block.

For Jamie's home it really was just that, a home that was beautiful but allowed you to put your feet up. It needed to be sophisticated but not so precious that it wouldn't stand up to her high heels and the scuff marks, scratches and dings that a well-lived home is certain to have.

To get it right we reached for luxe textures including leather, faux chinchilla and Alpaca, while keeping other elements clean and comfortable like the dining table and built in banquette. It's elevated but no one is having a nervous breakdown when a slice of pizza falls of a plate.

You're a busy working mom, were there any particular elements you wanted included in the design of your house to help balance work and family life? Jamie: While designing my home, I wanted a beautifully designed, dramatic look that I wouldn't be afraid to get a bit dirty. Young boys are always getting into things and making messes, and I want to encourage Beau to explore and play without fear of being messy. Because of this, it was important for me to have a place where I can do the everyday chores and feel relaxed. I breathe a sigh of relief every time I step in the laundry room!

Which fictional character would be most at home in your space? Jamie: I think Belle because we have tons of books!

Any decorating tips you'd like to share with our readers? Jamie: I think when you can hire a designer or even a friend that has good taste it's always a great idea. Having someone push you beyond your norm allows for exciting results.

Jamie Lynn Sigler has an impressive IMDB page as an actor and now, is also a busy mom and a spokesperson for Tide. As she says, "My laundry routine saviors are these new Tide Pods. I can't tell you how valuable they are with our family's never ending laundry baskets!"

Thanks to the Tide team, Ryan and Jamie for sharing the tour.
