With spring on the way and 2011 slowly revealing itself to be a year of green, saturated leafy color keeps re-appearing on our radar. For a minimal, modern take on the trend, we're returning to a residential project in Singapore by architecture firm Ong & Ong. 31 Blair Road manages to pull together plant life, stark white interiors, and classic modern furniture in an approach that feels very fresh and organic.
This isn't a new project — it was completed in 2009 — but it's one that we're revisiting to for its innovative connections between indoor and outdoor space. You wouldn't know it from the interior, but this home is enclosed by an elaborate Art Deco shell. The architects kept the building's historic exterior in tact, while gutting the interior and introducing a central courtyard that bisects the home and enables natural ventilation to pass through.
