A Reader Hallway Revisited

Over the span of a year, we receive, post, answer, and share multitudes of reader questions, so we're always very happy to receive updates from the original reader who sent in their question. Such was the case with reader, Anna, who sent us this email updating how her hallway runner dilemma turned out...

Before the reduction in FLOR tiles

I wrote in a while back about the FLOR runner we were trying to create in our hallway. I really appreciated all the feedback people kindly gave and wanted to follow up with the latest development (first image), which is two one-tile width runners (the break in the middle is where the hallway has a horizontal branch).  I'm not positive that it's the final solution, but I definitely like it a lot better than before.  I actually really like the amount of space between the edges and the walls - but my eye thinks that the carpet itself should be wider, so I may still try some options that include half-tiles (rectangular or triangular).

Some of the comments questioned the need for a runner in the hallway at all, since we really like our floors.  However, because the hallway is so long and with such a high ceiling, I really like the look of something soft-textured, and I like the feel underfoot.  Really, the primary reason though is that the cat absolutely adores rolling around on the carpet - as you can see!
