A pile of brush and a bunch of empty cans usually means it is time to take out the recycling or head to the transfer station. Not so fast! Get creative instead and design your very own portable 'forest,' complete with 'trees' of your choosing.
Jamie at hands on: as we grow came up with this neat idea that got her boys involved in both a creative craft and gardening project. The Tin Can Forest takes the tried and true springtime ritual of planting seedlings and ratchets up the fun with handmade pots made from found and upcycled materials.
We like the portability of the project, so the 'forest' can be moved not only from playspace to playspace, but also to follow the sunlight, thus taking advantage of a teachable science moment. Find step-by-step instructions with plenty of photos here, and happy planting.
