Baby Makes Three: A Shared Master Bedroom & Nursery with Global Style
Name: Marra (Newborn)
Location: Fort Meyers, Florida
The nursery was designed to flow with the existing decor in our master bedroom since we are sharing a space with our little girl. We live in a two-bedroom townhouse and often have guests so we wanted to keep our guest room for hosting. We needed to find a way to create a kid friendly space that still had a sophistication to work in an adult space as well. We also wanted to forgo a crib and follow a Montessori nursery style with a floor bed.
We kept the color palette very neutral with metallic accents to create a soothing environment that had lots of light. I love textures and textiles so I wanted to make sure there were many levels cushy fabrics, patterns and pillows in the room.
There are so many special elements in the room. To begin, our daughter’s name is Marra, after where her father and I were married in Marrakesh, Morocco so you can find elements from the country throughout the space from the textured metallic pillow on the IKEA rocker, to the Moroccan wedding blanket hanging behind our bed we carried home from our travels. We also had a custom monogram created for her by our friends at DM Paper Designs that we used on our shower invitations, then ironed onto pillows in her nursery and a canvas wrap for the wall.
She has little elements of travel throughout the room from her wish flags, to her globe and African gilded animals. Her father and I are avid travelers so we wanted to inspire her worldly roots as well. Finally, as a child I was a barrel racer and spent a lot of time with horse and found so much comfort in their spirit so we added a horse portrait and a unicorn to keep her company.
Thanks, Kehrin!
