Allow Nicole Kidman, Oscar Isaac, Mahershala Ali, Lucy Liu, and more stars to take you on an immersive and tranquil journey around the world. HBO Max recently released “A World of Calm,” a new series inspired by meditation and sleep app Calm’s signature Sleep Stories. The first season, available now, consists of 10 half-hour episodes filled with mesmerizing scenery and tranquil narration from the A-list actors. From the forests of Latvia to the outer reaches of the solar system, viewers are taken to a different place each episode in order to (hopefully) calm the body and soothe the mind.

Given the dumpster fire year that is 2020, “A World of Calm” appears to have arrived at the most opportune time. Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Idris Elba, Zoë Kravitz, Cillian Murphy, Keanu Reeves, and Kate Winslet round out the cast of narrators. Tranquil music, scientifically-engineered narratives, and stunning footage are all components that make “A World of Calm,” for lack of a better word, calming. The series hails from producers of the Calm app and Nutopia, the production company behind documentaries like Netflix’s “Babies” and National Geographic’s “One Strange Rock.”

To get an idea of the series, Isaac narrates the noodles episode about a family recipe passed down through generations, while Chopra Jonas narrates the chocolate episode interspersed with imagery from rainforests in Central America. Per the series description, “A World of Calm” hopes to “provide audiences of all ages a respite from the stress and chaos of everyday life right now,” with help from some of the smoothest voices in Hollywood.

The bottom line? Between the COVID-19 pandemic, that chaotic first presidential debate, and the racial injustice protests sparked by police brutality, it’s been a harrowing last couple of months. So, if HBO Max wants to offer us celebrity-narrated Sleep Stories, let’s just happily accept it. And I, for one, have never been one to turn away anything Oscar Isaac-related.
