Adding Architectural Interest with a DIY Faux Fireplace

Adding Architectural Interest with a DIY Faux Fireplace

Kristen always loved the look of a fireplace in a master bedroom, even though she acknowledges that the weather in North Carolina rarely requires one. Eager to spruce up her inner sanctum and to add some visual interest, she picked up a battered mantle at a flea market in Raleigh.

She stripped, sanded, and repainted her flea market find before installing it in her bedroom. The last step was the spark that makes this project jump out- she painted the section of wall inside the mantle with black chalkboard paint. Add one talented artist (her stepdad no less!) and a wonderful illustration of a fire, and Kristen has a truly unique focal point for her bedroom.
