The perfect escape for a little boy who loves construction and trucks? A construction/paving company where his aunt is the manager. Milo got to ride each truck of his choice. What a memorable trip.
The city and location the photo was taken in: Egg Harbor Township, NJ at a heavy construction/paving company.
Your favorite baby or child-friendly activity there: I live in San Francisco with my husband and 3 1/2 year old son. I took my son, Milo, to southern New Jersey (where I grew up) to see my aunts, uncle and cousins, most of whom haven't seen him since he was an infant. One my aunts is an office manager at a heavy construction/paving company. She knows that Milo is obsessed with all things trucks and construction, so she arranged a tour for him. When we arrived, she asked him what he wanted to see. He replied, "A dump truck, a bobcat, and a front-end loader." She had all three pulled up and he was able to get a ride on each. For him, this was better than any amusement park.
Your best tip or words of wisdom for traveling with kids: Go with the flow. The unplanned parts of the trip may be better than the planned activities.
Your favorite way to make it feel like home: I keep the same bedtime routine (three stories, four songs) no matter where we sleep.
An item you MUST take with you when traveling: For the six-hour flights each way, colorforms (construction site and truck colorforms, of course) were the perfect quiet and engaging activity.
