While jogging around the neighborhood, my husband and I always marvel at the newly-constructed or remodeled homes. They're lovely, modern, and clean, and with hybrid vehicles parked in the driveway, we suspect that the inhabitants have worked in as much green building as possible—with a hefty price tag. But here's are a handful of starter homes that actually fall within a modest budget's grasp.
Over at the Mother Nature Network, they've come up with a list of seven pre-fab and green starter homes that come in at a fairly reasonable price. Some are pre-fabs available nationwide, while others that made the list are city-specific developments available to residents.
In our own fair city, we know of a few developments offering green builds to low-income families as well as first-time home buyers; if you're in the market for a home, it's definitely worth researching in your area. Your city website will likely have all pertinent information available, but you might also check with local eco-minded non-profits to see if they have any information.
What do you think about these affordable green homes?
