Amazon Shoppers Are Obsessed with Dishwasher Cleaner

The main job of a dishwasher is to, you know, wash the dishes. But did you know that you probably should wash the dishwasher too?

You’ll know it’s time (or a little overdue) for a cleaning when your dishwasher starts to smell a little funky, has detergent buildup along the insides, or leaves a foggy, filmy buildup all over the dishes instead of leaving everything squeaky clean.

There are a few ways to clean your dishwasher (including this wacky lemon Kool-Aid method!) but there’s one cleaning agent in particular that Amazon customers can’t stop raving about. Enter: Affresh, a cult-favorite dishwasher cleaner that has nearly two-and-a-half thousand 4- or 5-star customer reviews on Amazon.

The tabs (which come in a pack of six) are designed to eliminate odors and any buildup that accumulates on the inside of your appliance. All you do is throw it in the appropriate slot during a wash cycle once a month or so. (The people at Affresh recommend that you do this once a month for optimal freshness.)

“My dishwasher is five years old and had never been cleaned before. It had extreme calcium and lime stone buildup and I ran it through two cleaning cycles with Affresh. The sprayers are now clean.”

Another reviewer who lamented the same buildup problem said, “We started getting white streaks all over my dishes. That never happened before. Thought it was my detergent and changed it, but no difference. Clean dishes with this weird white film on them, we’d wash them by hand, then put them back in the dishwasher, and get white film again! Then I did an internet search to figure out what was going on (a dishwasher is an incredibly simple piece of machinery). Found this! Bought it. Used it. Dishes are clean again!”

Our favorite review, though, might just be this one that claims that the product could even be TOO effective. “The stainless interior of my dishwasher was left particularly sparkly after using this product. One caution: If anything, it may work too well in a loaded dishwasher. I ran my favorite Pyrex measuring cup in the cycle and it came out bare …. all the painted measurements had been washed off! Everything was very clean. Too clean in the case of the measuring cup!”

So maybe leave the measuring cups out when you run an Affresh cycle.
