Stay In This ‘Wizard of Oz’-Themed Cabin for $35/Night—No Flying Monkeys Required
There’s probably no chance that a tornado will magically (and safely) transport you to this whimsical “Wizard of Oz”-inspired cottage, but it’s certainly alluring enough to encourage you to travel there by traditional means.
Located in West Jefferson, North Carolina, the cabin accommodates two guests and is currently listed on Airbnb for the extremely reasonable rate of $35/night. The exterior is painted with a bright illustration of one of the classic film’s most iconic scenes: Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow standing on the famous Yellow Brick Road, gleefully observing the glistening wonderland of Emerald City from afar. There are even a pair of striped-stockinged legs with ruby shoes peeking from beneath the house because an Oz-themed home isn’t complete without mentioning the Wicked Witch of the West and her unforgettable demise.
Once inside, the bright color scheme continues. The living space features brightly painted walls, a large flower patterned area rug and bright red window treatments. There’s a futon that obviously doubles as a comfy sitting area and sleeping space. Additionally, the cottage has a shared half-bath that is serviced weekly and comes stocked with soap, paper towels, linens and towels. Outside, guests can take in the natural surroundings and the charming Oz exterior from the private deck which features a bench, a couple of chairs and a table. There’s also an outdoor shower plus a charcoal grill at the pavilion, where grilling tools are provided; however, guests must bring their own charcoal. A nearby walking trail winds through the surrounding wooded area. Wi-fi access is available on the front porch.
The cabin has seasonal availability during late spring, summer and early fall. So far, it has a ton of positive reviews with guests describing their experience as “incredible,” “beautiful,” and a “great place at a great price.”
