Aldi Fans Are Obsessed With These $8 Kitty Haunted Houses
Halloween might not live up to the usual epic scares and endless candy celebration for human children this year, but beloved grocery store Aldi is ready to make sure any cat kids find this year’s fright-fest as hauntingly awesome as ever. Among their wide-ranging seasonal offerings, they have a product that automatically cues a Zoolander voice for any millennials out there: “What is this, a haunted house for cats?”
Yes, actually, that’s exactly what they are selling — and cat owners are extremely enamored of it.
Aldi fans might remember the holiday version of these scratchpad abodes that the store sold last year, in gingerbread house, tiki hut, and log cabin form. Starting today, the spooky Halloween version of the cat scratch house is an Aldi Find, meaning that it will be featured for a limited time and costs just $7.99. These “haunted houses” were a hit last year, and are sure to be popular again (so get one while you still can).
In one version, the red bats fly over the tiled roof while your cat can peek out from between the New Orleans-esque shuttered windows. The details, down to the candle wax drips and wrought iron fence, make it fantastically adorable. A second embraces the fall seasonal theme (with red bricks and plenty of fall foliage), while the third offers black ravens and cats as an omen on the purple-and-white cardboard house.
The three houses, called “Halloween House,” “Vampire’s Lair,” and “Trick or Treat House” (although it is not obvious which is which), are about a foot wide and a foot tall, and 20 inches long. They also include catnip and two scratch pads to encourage positive scratching from your cat. Judging from the enthusiastic reviews on the AldiNerd.com Facebook group, humans and cats alike think highly of the house. And if we’re all stuck at home anyway, why not find some affordable amusement in the form of taking photos of your cat inside a tiny haunted house?
