Alice, Am I Too Old to Ask Friends to Help Me Paint?

Dear Alice,

I've moved a few times. My (really, really good) friends helped me get into my first two apartments, but for the third I decided that I was a grownup and it was time to hire professional movers. I'm never going back.

Now that I'm in my new place I really want to start nesting, and that means painting my apartment. My friends and I are past the point where we can hire each other as movers for pizza and wine, but I feel like painting is another story. Am I too old to ask my friends to help me paint?

Thank you!
A caring friend

Dear Friend,
Not at all! But we'll get there in a minute. To your point about moving, I agree with your decision to go pro from now on. For what it's worth, Alice and her friends have a sacred, mutual contract in place that none of us will ask each other to help schlep.

But here's the thing: painting is not moving.

When people think of painting a room or even a whole apartment as being a drawn-out process, they're probably thinking back to the old days of priming plus painting, which was a bit of an ordeal. You don't have to do double work anymore! HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams has a new complete one-coat paint and primer called INFINITY® — meaning no more multiple coats. It takes to a wide range of surfaces, and finishes beautifully with an ultra smooth application. It's a light enough job that if you spring for some pizza and wine, you and a couple friends can turn it into a party.

That said, don't take your friends for granted. Turning a painting project into a social event will work once, but the RSVP list will get short if it becomes a regular occurrence.

That's another place where INFINITY® shines. It's made from a 100-percent acrylic formula that makes for a really durable, scrubbable, stain-resistant finish. When life does get a little messy — cooking splatters, furniture scuffs, kids even — you won't need to repaint to take care of it.

So I say go for it. Round up a few friends, queue up a playlist, and have a paint party. (And if you do go the complete one-coat paint and primer in one route, INFINITY® is carried exclusively by Lowe's. Find a location here!)
