Name: Alice Mae (15 months)
Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada
Room Size: 10' x10'
When I first saw Alice Mae's nursery I thought it was the perfect combination of color and neutrals, modern and vintage, clean lines and warm textures. Her mom Kate approached the space much as she would have the rest of her home, but with a few fun twists for the baby. I love that she kept the crib simple, but accented it with her own handmade quilt and adorable stuffed animals. The gorgeous patterned rug and bright artwork and accessories add life and fun to the otherwise soothing neutral space.
How would you describe the look and feel of this room? I think the nursery is clean and simple yet eclectic. We both like clean lines and not too much clutter. We wanted the baby to have a fun space of her own but it had to work with the rest of the house too. There was no formal plan or design to it. We took some items that we already had, bought some essential baby things (ie: crib) and kept it all pretty neutral.
What is your favorite piece or element? I love sitting with Alice at bedtime and reading her stories in the rocker. The vintage lampshade casts such a soft, pretty pink glow on everything that it is very soothing. And the vintage teak dresser may find its way into our room once she is a little older and needs more play space.
What was the biggest challenge decorating this room?I guess maybe the size? At 10 x 10 it's on the small side, but I have seen some tiny nurseries with which people have done amazing things. I feel grateful that she has a room of her own and didn't let myself get stressed out over the process - it was too exciting to be making a nursery for a little baby!
What do your friends say about the room? They have all said that they would like to have it for their room, which is very nice of them to say!
Do you have any advice for parents creating a room for their child? Do something you love because you too will be spending alot of time there!
If money were no object, what's your dream source: I'm pretty confident that I could do some serious damage at Inform, Provide, Lightform and Ella & Elliott - all great local companies with amazing products!
