This New Yorker’s Small Apartment Centers Around Two (Stunning!) Moroccan Rugs
“It’s not often you get a second chance at a space, but after moving out of and back into my Astoria apartment, that’s what I got,” begins Alicia Hastey, who moved back into this same one-bedroom, 600-square-foot apartment a year ago.
“While I loved every individual piece in my previous decor it was too big for my space and didn’t have any cohesion. When I moved back in this July, I decided to lean into my style — centered on the two Moroccan rugs I got on a 2021 trip to Marrakech.”
“Now my cozy apartment feels more connected and more true to my personality,” Alicia continues.
“Besides the rugs, keeping the litter box hidden is my biggest pride,” Alicia admits. “These cabinets from Wayfair are perfect for containing all things cat and keeping things moving vertically.”
“In true New York style, my wardrobe is 90% black,” Alicia explains. “The other 10% is bright colors, and my apartment reflects that. I love black and pink and florals and that’s the aesthetic of my home. I always say I have no taste, but I do know what I like and that’s how I’ve decorated my space.”
Alicia says it’s mandatory to be clean and organized in her tiny apartment “or the whole space feels cramped. My cleaning and organizing method is to do things 5 or 10 minutes at a time (or 2 minutes). Like if I’m waiting for water to boil, I’ll clean off the kitchen island and put things away, if I’m waiting 5 minutes for my Uber I’ll wipe down counters or mirrors. It makes it easy and makes me feel like it’s always clean but I’m never working at it.”
Thanks, Alicia!
